We envision a world where people and elephants coexist peacefully, which we will strive to achieve by reminding people of their intrinsic bond with the natural world and nonhuman animals.

The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) has listed Asian elephants as an endangered species. WEM focuses on Asian elephants, as there are only around 40,000 of them on the planet, fully 55% in India. This nation, on the verge of becoming the most densely populated country in the world with diverse cultures and religions, poses unique and complex challenges that need to be scaffolded and understood thoroughly. We also believe that providing bite-size information – written or narrated in simple language – is critical to capturing people’s short attention spans in this hectic pace of life.

In the end we will conserve only what we love; we will love only what we understand; and we will understand only what we are taught.
